Kaprije is a picturesque island in the Šibenik archipelago
Kaprije is a picturesque island in the Šibenik archipelago, 15 km southwest of Šibenik. The island is named after the Mediterranean caper, and its coastline is indented, with its highest point being the 132-meter Vela glavica. The island’s only settlement is located on the southwestern coast. Kaprije traditionally has problems with its water supply, although a new reservoir has been built. Throughout its history, from the 14th to the 20th century, it was under the rule of many powers and was a site of anti-fascist resistance during World War II. The island is accessible by ferry, not by car, and visitors can enjoy numerous coves.
The island also has several sights, including the Church of St. Peter and the remains of an old fortress. This once served to protect the islanders from pirate attacks. There are also several hiking trails on Kaprije that lead to various viewpoints. From there you can enjoy a magnificent view of the sea and the surrounding islands.
The island Kaprije is a perfect place for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse themselves in nature. Despite its modest size, the island offers an impressive variety of natural experiences and an authentic Dalmatian atmosphere. Here you can enjoy the simplicity of island life, admire the beauty of nature and relax completely.
